What will the apprentice be doing?

Working with the Head Chef and Kitchen Brigade, you will learn how to prepare and serve our 25-mile menu. Creating uncomplicated and simple British garden food, true to the seasons with fresh, clean flavours.

You will work your way round each section of the kitchen, so you become competent in the preparation of

  • Meat
  • Fish
  • Bread
  • Vegetables 
  • Pastry and desserts

You will be assigned a Chef Assessor who will guide you through the qualification, with regular visits and observations. You will also get to experience all the things that make THE PIG Apprenticeship unique.

Of course, not all of your time will be spent in the kitchen! You will have the opportunity to meet up with other Apprentice Chefs and have some great experiences, like;

  • Bread masterclass
  • Cheese Making
  • Foraging
  • Smoked and Uncut festival
  • Butchery

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

At the end of your Apprenticeship, you will achieve a Level 3 qualification as a Chef de Partie (you will need to have completed a Level 2 or have previous culinary experience/qualification)

You will complete your training in one of our hotel kitchens, working 5 days out of 7(40 hours a week). Working you way around the different sections, so you can master the whole kitchen.

There will be the opportunity to partake in "Off job training" such as visiting suppliers, Hospitality Networking events, Bee keeping.

Back to the more serious stuff, we also cover everything you need in the way of Food Hygiene, Manual Handling, COSHH, Fire Training, and even aspects of the running of the hotel.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

On completion of your Apprenticeship you will eligible for a Chef de Partie or Senior Chef de Partie role earning up to £28,000 per year.
