What will the apprentice be doing?

  • Undertake reception duties, including answering the telephone and face to face enquiries and signing in visitors.
  • Assist with pupil welfare, liaising with parents/staff.
  • Assisting with arrangements for visits by school nurse, photographer etc.
  • Provide clerical support e.g. photocopying, filing, faxing, e-mailing.
  • Arrange orderly and secure storage of supplies.
  • Maintain manual and computerised records.
  • Undertake typing, word processing and other IT based tasks.
  • Undertake routine administration e.g. distribution and collection of registers and the administration surrounding school meals etc.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Level 3 Business Administration apprenticeship.

This Apprenticeship is completed within the workplace. You will be assessed through written work and observation throughout your training. You will be given time by your employer to complete portfolio work, attend training, workplace shadowing and any other opportunities to develop your skills and knowledge.  

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

To be considered for employment in a school office as an administrator, depending on suitability and whether a vacancy arises. Career progression is available within the education sector.
