What will the apprentice be doing?

Each day we will be located in different areas. On a Monday, we will be in Erdington. Your role to begin with will be controlling the registers, signing in children and taking in payments as well as supporting the coach with the help they need. This will be your role on a Tuesday in Chelmsley Wood, Thursday in Erdington and Friday in Harborne. Eventually, you will begin to do warm ups within each of these sessions to develop your confidence before you start taking small groups and eventually taking control of a whole group. We like to use the approach where we gradually release responsibility in order for you to succeed. On a Wednesday, this will be an admin day. This would be liaising with the course co-ordinator to see what will need to be done on this day. This could be recreating leaflets, contacting different schools or delivering leaflets to school or contacting parents for feedback on our courses.

Locations include:

  • Grace Academy, Chemsley Wood
  • Erdington Academy, Erdington
  • Lordswood Boys School, Harborne

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

  • Level 3 community sport and health officer apprenticeship standard
  • Level 2 functional skills in English and maths as required
  • End point assessment

You will spend one day per week doing 'off the job' training. This will be related to your apprenticeship but not part of your daily duties at work. This will be arranged with the employer.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Once qualified, we will be looking to take on a sports coach in different regions. With our partnership with Birmingham City, we can contact them for further training guidance dependent on your outcomes and where you see your further progressions. We also work closely with Paul Devlin Fitness and Well Being charity so opportunities to be involved with charitable interests is also available.
