What will the apprentice be doing?

You will have a good knowledge of all our processes including laser cutting, welding and presswork and understand the process times, changeovers and limitations in order to manufacture a component. You will be responsible for putting costs together to work out the manufacturing cost including labour and overheads for the sales team to quote.

Thinking outside of the box is key to find more efficient manufacturing methods to save cost, improve quality and delivery etc. A mathematical and methodical mindset is crucial, as well as the ability to learn to operate CAD programmes including Solidworks, read engineering drawings, have confidence to speak and negotiate with suppliers and be literate on all Microsoft programmes especially Excel.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Engineering Technician L3:

After a period of foundation skills and technical knowledge development all apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications:

  • Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence)

After a further period of skills and technical knowledge development all apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) – Technical Support
  • Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge) - for all starts from 1st July 2017
