What will the apprentice be doing?

Salon responsibilities will include:

  • Greeting clients as they arrive
  • Dealing with payments and appointment bookings
  • Shampooing, draping and brushing out a client's hair before the cut or style
  • Preparing colour treatments
  • Supplying refreshments to clients
  • Maintaining the presentation of The Little Hair Boutique salon at all times
  • Cutting clients hair with close mentoring support and training provided.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

You will be undertaking a Level 2 apprenticeship to become a Hair Professional. Opportunities to progress on to Level 3 for the right candidates.

The apprentice would be assigned an assessor through the College, who would typically come out to visit in the workplace to assess workplace competence. Day release attendance is once a week during term-time at Cambridge campus.

The practical training period is the time dedicated to the development of the knowledge, skills and behaviours for your apprenticeship which includes the following components;

• Level 2 in Hairdressing Apprenticeship Standard

• Hair Professional Standard Skills, Knowledge and Behaviours.

• Functional Skills Level 1 Maths and English (exemptions apply)

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

This apprenticeship (at Level 2) could lead to a possible position in a Hairdressing Technician role and the chance to continue on to a Level 3.

Things to consider

You will be working in the salon 4 days a week with 1 day a week at Cambridge Regional College. The hairdressing profession is a creative and rewarding industry and the employer will provide close mentoring support to progress to become qualified. The very nature of the job role as a hairdresser means standing at long periods and good body posture is important. Will be required to work Saturday’s and extended shifts during the week. The apprentice will be offered a uniform. The salon is located within St Ives town centre with access to public transport.

The Little Hair Boutique is a pretty and sleek salon situated in a courtyard off Cromwell Mews in St Ives Cambridgeshire (no 10). The salon is on 2 floors so allowing the option of privacy and calmness if needed. We opened in May 2014 and started off as a team of 2 and has since grown to a team of 8 and had a location change in 2019 due to outgrowing our premises. We pride ourselves on being a friendly and welcoming salon, whilst offering a professional service with a relaxed atmosphere. We all have such a passion for hair and thrive off education and always learning no matter how much experience we have. We regularly have in salon training with our colour team and also attend courses in London to keep refreshed. We are a REDKEN colour and product salon and also stock olaplex. We also now have The Little Hair bridal and extension bar situated at number 4 Cromwell Mews specialising in nanos, tapes, weaves and all things bridal! All our stylists are level 3 trained and we also have a mixture of colour specialists, extension specialists, bridal specialists and retail specialists ensuring that we have the full knowledge between us to create the perfect hair for our clients. We offer call out bridal services to keep our clients day running as smoothly as possible.
