What will the apprentice be doing?

The Faculty of Business, Law and Politics is one of four faculties in the University of Hull and is made up of Hull University Business School, the School of Politics and International Studies and the School of Law. Activities undertaken within the faculty are supported by four teams of dedicated Professional Services Staff - Academic Services, Academic Administration, Executive and Engagement, Research, Innovation and Enterprise.

Apprentices will deliver a high-quality professional service to the faculty, based in either the Academic Services or Executive and Engagement team. Flexibility to work across the faculty and support other areas is also required.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

Academic Services

  • Supporting the delivery of Welcome Week and student enrolment processes.
  • Using the student information system, updating student records, recording module choices, recording assessment submission and allocations of Academic Support Tutors.
  • Undertaking reception duties and responding to student enquiries over the phone and via the Student Information Desk.
  • Using the university’s document management system, the Virtual.
  • Learning Environment and other relevant repositories.
  • Providing administrative support to a wide range of student engagement and feedback activities. 

Executive and Engagement

  • Supporting recruitment events and Open Days.
  • Supporting events and engagement opportunities, including; Schools and College Engagement.
  • Supporting the distribution of information across the Faculty including updating the Faculty SharePoint site and producing ebulletins.
  • Supporting post, requisition, travel, health and safety, HR and facilities procedures. 

Main Work Activities

  • Communication - Answer the telephone and assist callers with their queries; to take and forward messages as necessary.
  • Supporting with inbound enquiries via MS Teams, email, and face to face interaction.
  • Address customer complaints in a friendly, constructive manner; to liaise where appropriate with Duty Management in resolving customer complaints. 


  • Under the guidance of a team leader, where necessary provide day-to-day support to other members of staff and members of staff new to the work area. 

Service Delivery

  • Required to perform reception duties and act as first point of contact.
  • General office duties which may include:
  • Using photocopier and ICT equipment.
  • Receiving, acknowledging, distributing and posting mail.
  • Updating notice boards.
  • General filing duties. 

Analysis/Reporting/Data inputting

  • Input data and maintain accurate records.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Level 3 Business Administrator Apprenticeship.

This apprenticeship programme is delivered with a blended learning approach and includes a mixture of onsite tutor visits and online tutor led sessions. All delivery is completed in the workplace and you will not need to attend any off-site training.
