This is a responsible role within our Patient Services Team. Dealing directly with patients on the telephone or in person handling sensitive information, medication details and personal medical history. Working with clinicians you will support patients in finding a course of action/appointment best suited to their needs.

What will the apprentice be doing?

  • A varied role incorporating
  • Reception duties - Inbound telephone calls, appointment bookings, processing repeat prescriptions requests, advising test results, supporting GPs with adhoc tasks
  • Secretarial duties - producing referral letters, registering new patients and administrative support for the GPs
  • Clinical Administration - Processing medication reviews and problem titling letters
  • General Administration - Daily mail, correspondence both verbal and written including emails

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

An apprenticeship allows you to earn a wage, gain valuable work experience and industry specific competence. You will be expected to work towards the Business Administrator L3 Apprenticeship Standard, with support from your employer and the Chesterfield College Group.

As part of your apprenticeship, and dependent on your prior attainment, you may be required to complete maths and English Functional Skills which is an integral part of your apprenticeship. Upon successful completion you will be awarded additional certificates of recognition for these qualifications.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Full time employment for the right individual upon successful completion of their apprenticeship with development within the team and general understanding of Primary Care and the NHS

Newhall Surgery is a busy GP Practice in the heart of Newhall, Swadlincote, Derbyshire. We have 10500 patients. Our team consists of 7 GPs, 4 Nurses, 1 HCA and 2 Clinical Pharmacists. Our clinical team is supported by our Management Team and Patient Service & Adminstration Teams.
