What will the apprentice be doing?


  • To support the TSS Administration staff in the flow and administration of patients being cared for by the company.
  • To support the TSS Administration staff in the management of the patient process from commencement to final appointment in line with patient pathways and protocols of care as agreed by commissioners and in line with local and national targets.
  • To communicate with a wide variety of stakeholders inclusive of the administration staff and neighbouring NHS Hospitals.
  • The post will also involve thorough and effective communication with patients, medical staff, administration staff and clinical staff to ensure efficient and effective patient care.
  • The post holder will have a support role in organising patient pathways of care. This will include the administration of the whole pathway and the recording of information such as dissemination of clinical letters if required and the production of activity data.
  • The post holder will be expected to maintain confidentiality of the company business at all times.
  • The post holder must demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills, have the ability to prioritise their workload and to work autonomously to tight deadlines with the support of a senior manager.


Medical Staff

  • To support the TSS Administration staff in the availability and provision of medical and practitioner staff to support pathways of care and services
  • Liaise and communicate with the TSS team and medical staff in the administration of patients receiving care from the company

     Maintain open and effective channels of communication to ensure high standards of communication are met
  • Ensure that pathways within your remit are managed within the target waiting times
  • Monitor administrative milestones for the care pathway


  • Develop and maintain effective open channels of communication with all stakeholders in the provision of direct patient care i.e. 
  • Consultant and practitioner staff, administration, clinical and operational staff.
  • Ensure effective, concise and understandable communication is delivered to patients in regard to their pathway of care.

About the employer

Tyneside Surgical Services (TSS) is an independent provider of NHS care. Established in 2007, we introduced a new model of care which was unique to the North-East of England. Over the past twelve months, as a team, we have successfully developed a brand-new day-case facility which launched at the beginning of January 2022. We offer consultant clinical services in eight elective specialties by named consultants via the national NHS e-referral service. We offer safe and effective services on behalf of NHS Clinical Commissioning Groups. We provide a patient pathway from initial referral from patients GP through to diagnostics and surgical procedure if required. The service provides access to day case surgery only as well as endoscopy services.
