What will the apprentice be doing?

An excellent opportunity to learn all aspects of ICT support within a well-established and highly regarded Performing Arts College, providing ICT support for school systems- student and staff. You will receive training in a wide variety of areas and gain a fantastic amount of experience in all aspects of this exciting industry.

• The ICT technician role will involve support of students and staff in keeping ICT efficient and fit for purpose.
• Working in a busy support department you will provide 1st Line support for Staff and Students. Receiving incoming issues by phone, email or in person you will be required to install software, maintain computer hardware and respond to ad-hoc queries on general computer usage.
• Additionally, you will perform day to day house-keeping on the network, making sure antivirus definitions are up to date and the daily backups have been taken. You will also be required to setup projectors and screens for presentations and events.
• This role also requires supporting a busy reprographics department with large-scale print runs as well as providing technical support on the print hardware.
• The role also includes supporting the admin team during peak times and if staff shortages occur
• On job training will be provided that will lead to experience in maintaining large networks and supporting customers.

A DBS check will be required as standard.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

The apprenticeship contains the following three core key modules which seek to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to be a successful Information Communications Technician Level 3. 

The final module is a Pathway module to provide specialist career track skills and knowledge depending on which track was chosen at the outset from the 3 options available.

Computer Fundamentals & Security:
Gain an understanding of the core concepts in computing including hardware, software, security and troubleshooting.

Introduction to Networking & Cloud Services:
An introduction to the fundamental cloud concepts of networking and cloud computing, including networking modules, devices and protocols.

Communication in Support:
Support in IT requires good communications skills. Develop your communications skills by exploring the best practices of support.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

This role may secure a full time position within the college for the right person on completion of their apprenticeship, although this cannot be guaranteed.
