What will the apprentice be doing?

As an engineering welding apprentice, this programme will form part of our succession planning for the future.

You will be:

  • Planning and preparing to weld materials
  • Interpreting technical specifications & drawings
  • Checking that materials conform to the specifications
  • Preparing materials ready for welding
  • Setting the welding equipment making adjustments as required
  • Making joints to the specifications
  • Monitoring the parameters throughout, once complete you will visually inspect the welds
  • Learning how to take precautions to control distortion
  • Completing documentation related to the production process

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

As a welding apprentice, this programme will form part of our succession planning for the future.

You will be trained, supported and monitored throughout the process. When your formal engineering welding apprenticeship starts you will be paid and day-released to PETA in Havant for the duration of your programme. 

This will start by learning how to work safely, efficiently and use technical information. You will also learn how to use prepare and use Manual Metal Arc Metal Inert Gas welding equipment.

On successful completion of the apprenticeship you will have achieved the Level 2 General Welder (arc processes) apprenticeship standard.

Overall duration - 15 months

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

You will have the opportunity to complete a Certification Scheme for Weldment Inspection Personnel (CSWIP) qualification and achieve Welding Codes relevant to our business needs.
