Apprentice Welder/Fabricator SUPPORT SYSTEMS (NOTTM) LTD

As an Apprentice Welder/ Fabricator, you will be working alongside a qualified Welder/ Fabricator at our site in Derby. You will be placed out in the workshop with a mentor who will ask you to observe and where possible assist with jobs. You will work from a set of drawings and picking lists to ensure work is completed correctly and on time.

What will the apprentice be doing?

A works manager or the workshop supervisor will then talk you through the projects for the day. You will be given picking lists and/ or drawings which relate to a customer order and you will be asked to complete projects alongside an experienced colleague.

Tasks will include:

  • Assembly & Riveting
  • Rolling
  • Welding
  • Spotwelding
  • Removing distortion
  • Setting dimensions
  • Trimming
  • Cutting
  • Filing
  • Drilling

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

An apprenticeship allows you to earn a wage, gain valuable work experience and industry specific competence. You will be expected to work towards the Metal Fabricator Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard, with support from your employer and the Chesterfield College Group. You will also work towards the L3 EAL Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering.

As part of your apprenticeship, and dependent on your prior attainment, you may be required to complete maths and English Functional Skills which is an integral part of your apprenticeship. Upon successful completion you will be awarded additional certificates of recognition for these qualifications.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

  • Following completion of your apprenticeship and provided the apprenticeship has been completed to a satisfactory standard, you will be offered a full time position at Support Systems (Nottm) Ltd and will become a full time member of our team.
