What will the apprentice be doing?

There is a broad range of electrical work we undertake including electrical testing and inspection, installation and maintenance works. As a result the business administration for the company is crucial for the smooth running of the operations. We currently have an experienced office manager working 25 hours a week covering the administrative tasks. However, there is plenty of scope for more hours of work even with our current work load. Our aim is to expand and recruit more electricians, so the support of the admin is crucial to ensure smooth running of the business.

Some of the tasks covered by the apprentice will include the following, some of which will be shared with, or at the very least, overseen by the current office manager:

  • Taking initial enquiries from customers, by phone or email.
  • Competent use of our job management software (SimPRO) to enter client details, schedule engineers jobs, track job progress and provide support to electricians out on the field.
  • Liaise with customers to book in their electrical work.
Admin assistance for the bookkeeper to enter receipts/invoices etc to the accounts software.
  • Book hotels and travel arrangements for the electricians when they have jobs away from home.
  • Help organise and collate data and paperwork both in the office and on-line storage.
  • Provide new ideas and creative solutions to new administrative challenges which present themselves as the company grows in size and influence.
  • Support the electricians with data entry on electrical certificates and sending them to the clients in a timely manner.
  • Provide PA assistance to the directors as and when required.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Business Administrator Level 3 Apprenticeship.

This apprenticeship is delivered through work based learning, this means that all training is done at the workplace eliminating the need to attend college. The successful candidate will be allocated a tutor who will visit on site every 4-6 weeks and deliver all of the training to gain the qualification and provide the resources to complete work between visits.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Full training will be given in this challenging and varied role to ensure that the apprentice has the skills and expertise to become a permanent member of the team upon completion of the apprenticeship programme.
