What will the apprentice be doing?

The post holder will be part of both the ODBST Finance and Operations teams. These teams support all member and prospective ODBST schools and contribute to the delivery of the ODBST’s overall aims and objectives.

The role includes: 

• Process purchase orders and invoices on behalf of ODBST on a weekly basis.
• Support the Finance team with monthly monitoring procedures.
• Responsibility for financial filing, both in electronic and hard copy.
• Processing of intra-company transactions.
• Liaise with suppliers and contractors.
• Ensure accurate and timely submission of Trustees’ expenses.
• Support the Finance team with annual financial audit work.
• Prepare documentation for prospective schools as required.
• Support the Finance team to deliver the strategic plan and any projects that underpin this

• Support the effective management of data protection processes by supporting data
protection audits, logging information and providing administrative support as required.
• Carry out administrative tasks to support the delivery of procurement activities to deliver best
value for ODBST schools.
• Provide accurate and efficient administrative support for operational tasks, such as updating
databases and spreadsheets and producing letters.
• Support the Operations team in the delivery of the strategic plan and any projects that
underpin this.
• Liaise with suppliers or third parties as required.
• Support the operational processes for onboarding new schools into the Trust.
• Support with general operational queries

• Provide administrative support to the wider ODBST team to support the delivery of projects
as required
• Comply and fully co-operate with the relevant health & safety policy
• Comply with ODBST’s data protection policy

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

As part of this role, you will undertake and complete a level 3 apprenticeship in Assistant Accountant. At the end of this apprenticeship you have an AAT Level 2 Booking Foundation Certificate and a Level 3 Diploma in Accounting which are nationally recognised qualifications. You will have the opportunity to learn in your role and will be provided with approximately one day per week in term time to study. You will be given one day a week to attend in person training at one of our Bucks Adult Learning sites. 

The training you will be completing as part of the Assistant Accountant apprenticeship standard includes: 

  • Management Accounting: Budgeting
  • Management Accounting: Decision and Control
  • Financial Statements for Limited Companies
  • Accounting Systems and Controls
  • Credit Management
  • Cash Treasury Management

All modules of this apprenticeship will include In person lessons, online exams, exam revision and a workplace project. 

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, there will be the opportunity to apply for available positions within the shared services team or within one of our member schools.  The ODBST is a growing organisation and anticipates further opportunities as more schools join our family.
