What will the apprentice be doing?

  • Respond to patient requests for access to clinicians within Practice policies
  • Respond to patients’ specific requests for information on services offered by the Practice and elsewhere
  • Maintain administration processes for the efficient running of services including but not exclusive to- clinics, medical records, reports, registrations, QOF, written and verbal communications etc
  • To become expert in the Practice clinical computer systems
  • To work closely with the administration and reception colleagues, ensuring an effective level of service provided to patients and others
  • Transfer and restore telephone services to/from out of hour’s service
  • Opening up and securing premises
  • Assist patients in a calm, efficient manner
  • Receive and relay oral and electronic messages.
  • Photocopying, filing and pruning patient’s medical records.
  • Produce weekly recall reports and generate letters to patients
  • Maintaining and administrating clinic lists
  • Opening post and assigning patient correspondence electronically
  • Give continuity of patient information by ‘handing over’ any incomplete issues to colleagues
  • Regularly attend team meetings & training sessions
  • Managing long term condition clinics for cohorts of patients
  • Regular attendance and Practice Development and training days and team meetings
  • General admin tasks as determined by the Team Leaders, Practice Business Manager or partners


What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

The successful candidate will work towards gaining a Level 3 qualification in Business Administration. 

Level 2 English and maths will need to be achieved, if not already, prior to taking the end point assessment.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

To be discussed on completion of apprenticeship.
