What will the apprentice be doing?


  • Assist with the day-to-day running of the School’s IT resources.
  • Provide general support to all users of the School’s IT resources making use of the online ServiceDesk to monitor and respond to requests for support.
  • Provide lesson support to Computer Science lessons and other lessons within the STEAM room as requested.
  • Maintain an awareness of changing technologies in the area of Information Technology and, in particular, to those affecting the education sector, bringing suitable courses to the attention of the Director of IT where appropriate.
  • Attend IT Department Weekly Meeting.
  • Provide technical support to out-of-hours presentations and meetings as requested.
  • Hardware/Software Maintenance.
  • Build and upgrade the components of workstations on the school network and assist with the regular rebuild process of existing workstations updating the IT Inventory as appropriate.
  • Provide first line support for school-wide hardware and software-related requests maintaining accurate records of support using the online service desk.
  • Install and configure school hardware items, maintaining the school IT Inventory, sourcing suitable drivers and associated software applications.


  • Support the in-house telephone system hardware and software liaising with the school’s solution provider as necessary.

IT Projects

  • Create useful resources and guides for use by the Department and the whole school community as appropriate.
  • Assist with the planning and delivery of annual, IT-related, whole school projects.

Network Routine

  • Provide routine support to network-related requests such as password changes, folder access permissions, printer configurations etc.
  • Conduct the network backup routine as instructed by senior members of the IT Support Team completing daily logs as required.
  • Utilise the School’s internet filtering software to maintain appropriate policies relating to acceptable usage, applying exemptions where authorised.
  • Provide first line support to the school’s wireless infrastructure.
  • Provide first line support to the school’s print management solution.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Estio apprenticeship training programmes are delivered virtually by our fully qualified and industry experienced training team. Successful completion of this apprenticeship gives you an accredited Level 3 Information Communications Technician, with training in how to:

  • Efficiently operate and control your ICT infrastructure – physical or virtual hardware, software, network services and data storage.
  • Use infrastructure management tools to automate the provisioning, testing, deployment and monitoring of infrastructure components.
  • Prioritise systems support tasks and monitor and maintaining system performance.
  • Maintain regulatory, legal and professional standards.
    Support the information systems needs for your business.
  • Level 3 national certificate.
