What will the apprentice be doing?

The successful applicant will learn to fulfil all the production roles within the factory. This includes foundry specific tasks such as:

  • Manufacturing wax patterns
  • Assembling onto funning systems
  • Operating the ceramic shelling line
  • Making and managing ceramic slurries
  • Pouring molten aluminium in the foundry

The role will also include more general metal finishing tasks such as:

  • Shot blasting
  • Fettling
  • Non-destructive testing
  • Heat Treatment
  • Straightening
  • Tensile testing
  • Machining and inspecting

The applicant will be expected to learn and carry out all these tasks to a high standard, learn lean principles and disciplined improvement techniques to add value, support the operations manager and long term become part of the management team of the Company. The functional part of the job will include a large element of manual handling and practical work.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

This Apprenticeship Standard is delivered within the workplace, where the Apprentice will complete a level 2 lean manufacturing operative competency and knowledge qualification. IPS will support and train the learner through the component aims with monthly monitoring and assessment visits to the workplace. This will prepare the learner for the End Point Assessment that is required for this Apprenticeship.

To complete this Apprenticeship, the learner must pass Level 1 English and maths (or have the appropriate transferable skills) and be working towards Level 2.
