What will the apprentice be doing?

You will learn how to do the following tasks:

  • Maintaining accurate production paperwork
  • Ensuring that the machine shop is kept clean and tidy
  • Communicating with other departments
  • TIG welding (with training)
  • Turning/boring out edges and polishing them.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

20% of your contracted working hours will be spent on training. Training is anything where you are learning any skills, knowledge and behaviours relevant to the job role. Training will include day release to college, meetings with your assessor, written assignments, research, mock assessments, putting together your portfolio of evidence, being mentored, shadowing other members of staff etc. Day release will be from East Sussex College's, Ore Valley Campus, term time only.

On successful completion of this apprenticeship learners will achieve a Level 2 Diploma in Engineering Operations (Skills) Level 2 Certificate or Diploma in Engineering Operations (knowledge). You will also complete the Level 2 Engineering Operative Standard and receive either a grade Pass or Distinction.

For all apprentices that don't have a maths adn English GCSE at grade C or above, or 4 or above, or equivalent, they will study Level 1 Functional Skills in maths and English during their day in college each week and be upskilled to Level 2.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

A permanent role at TSL may be available following successful completion of the apprenticeship.

Applicants should have a foundation knowledge of safe working practice within an engineering environment and it would be beneficial to have completed a technical subject.
