What will the apprentice be doing?

● Service and repair plant machinery and associated products in house or on site.
● Carry out repairs and complete associated paperwork in accordance with the Company’s Codes of Practice and its BS EN ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System.
● To attend customer’s premises and carry out testing and inspection procedures in BCGA CP7, calibration and validation to a wide range of gas equipment and welding arc equipment.
● Provide excellent customer service by operating a swift response time to call-outs and carrying out work to a high standard. To document, report, produce paperwork and certification, advise customers of best practices in all aspects of safety and use of equipment.
● Carry out regular electrical checks on calibration equipment to ensure products are working within set parameters.
● Ensure that there are sufficient parts in the workshop to effect repairs on all equipment.
● Attend training when required to keep abreast of new technologies and working practices.
● Complete the daily work sheet to be reviewed by the Branch Manager.
● Maintain the workshop in a clean and tidy condition.


What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician including:

  • Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering - Mechatronics Maintenance Tech (Development Competence)
  • Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Technical Knowledge) BTEC Diploma
  • Functional Skills if required


You will work with expert assessors to develop new knowledge, skills and behaviours within the profession. You will experience a blended learning model with classroom sessions at college and workplace delivery. You will gather learning evidence, journals and off-the-job records using your e-portfolio.

At the end of the planned learning period, it will be agreed that you are ready to enter 'Gateway' and for your End Point Assessment to be arranged.


What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Full time opportunity after completion to move into service technician role.

Things to consider

You’ll need a minimum of 5 GCSEs A* – C (or equivalent grades 9-4) with two these being in English and maths. Full UK Driving Licence is required.
