What will the apprentice be doing?
- Preparing legal documents, correspondence and court forms by audio and copy typing using digital dictation for multiple fee earners at times.
- Photocopying and scanning documents and correspondence.
- Answering the telephone, assisting with client enquiries both on the telephone and face-to-face and taking messages when required.
- Liaising with other law firms, authorities, barristers chambers and other third parties.
- Making appointments using Outlook calendar and tasks.
- Filing of correspondence and documents and keeping records up to date, ensuring that all files are maintained to the Lexcel standard.
- Preparing mail for posting/emailing/faxing.
- Covering reception/collecting or taking post and DX/banking to fill in when required.
- Assisting with monthly billing of the practice’s Family clients, including costing the file and preparing bills.
- Supporting the Head of Family in arranging marketing and networking events including dealing with invitations and attendance where required.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
This is an Advanced Apprenticeship in Business Administration (Level 3).
It will involve a combination of on and off the job training in the workplace.
You will have monthly mentoring and guidance at work from a Craven College Learning & Development Advisor alongside weekly college attendance in Skipton.
After 18 months you will be entered to undertake an End Point Assessment, to complete your Apprenticeship.
The End Point Assessment will comprise of a Project, a Knowledge Test, and a Presentation/Interview with the assessor.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
There is the potential for a permanent role as a Legal Assistant or Legal Secretary. There is also the possibility of progressing to a trainee fee earner and further qualifications.
