What will the apprentice be doing?

Role overview

The Apprentice Technician will learn and assist in many aspects of the Analytical Support role and the put these learnings into practice within the laboratories.

The Apprentice will manage and monitor the requirements for the maintenance and calibration of highly scientific equipment in a busy laboratory environment.

The Apprentice will provide hands on support for practical calibration work and assist the analysts in the various analytical teams in the troubleshooting of equipment faults and communicating with the Analytical Support team and service providers for external engineer support.

The Apprentice will be responsible for hosting the external engineers on site and for the review of the documentation and summary reports.

The Apprentice will learn about, and participate in, the requirements for Data Integrity and cGMP and understand the critical importance of these in a pharmaceutical laboratory.

The Apprentice will participate in improvement project work and develop an understanding of analytical equipment breakdowns failure modes and the techniques to identify faults and rectify.

 

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

On the job training will be provided by the employer and the apprenticeship delivery will be with New College, Swindon and will consist of the following elements:

Mandatory Knowledge Qualification: Level 3 Certificate in Laboratory Technical Skills (QCF)

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

If apprentice does well, then there is the potential that this role may become permanent, but this cannot be confirmed at this stage.  The contract is a fixed term contract until the end of the apprenticeship
