What will the apprentice be doing?

On a day-to-day basis as a Glass Operative Apprentice at Cornwall Glass Manufacturing, you will be working at our Manufacturing site in Plymouth which produce a range of glass products from Double Glazed Units to bespoke mirror and laminated glass panels.

You will be carrying out your work as part of our experienced and friendly team, in a safe environment whilst meeting the high-quality standards set in a fast paced & well organised manufacturing site.


Your day-to-day duties will include:

·         Familiarity with the production process from start to finish

·         IGU Manufacture

·         General Glass Processing

·         Bespoke glass processes including, Painting, Sandblasting & Lamination

·         Working on and learning the Toughening Furnace and process

·         Glass Handling

·         Glass Cutting

·         Machine operation

·         Health & Safety

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

During the Lean Manufacturing Operative Level 2 Standard Apprenticeship, you will achieve a EAL Level 2 Diploma in Manufacturing (knowledge and skills) qualification.


What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Progressing into higher level jobs within the company, increase in wage depending on performance. The hours in this advert is based on the candidate being under 18, over 18s will be working a 42.5 hour week. This pathway, like many glass/glazing jobs, requires manual skills, handling heavy equipment, and spending long periods standing; so physical fitness is important.
