What will the apprentice be doing?

You will be:

  • Ensuring that all children attending the setting are kept safe and receive rich and stimulating play experiences appropriate to their age and stage of development.
  • Assisting with the care and supervision of the children with regard to their physical, emotional and intellectual needs.
  • Playing a part in their education, health and wellbeing and be able to build and maintain close working relationships with parents and colleagues.
  • Inspiring, planning, and creating learning activities for children under the EYFS curriculum including outdoor activities.
  • Observing and keeping an up to date record of achievement file on key children, for parents/carers, including learning logs and personal profiles.
  • Respecting the confidentiality of information received.
  • Supporting all staff and actively engage as a positive member of the team.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

The programme will consist of face to face tutor led knowledge sessions, at Taunton or Ilminster once per fortnight and a minimum of six hours independent study on the alternate week. This will be at a venue to be agreed with the employer.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Successful completion of the apprenticeship can lead to progression onto the Early Years Foundation Degree and may lead to employment.

Things to consider

Apprenticeship offers are subject to two references. Due to this setting being located in a village, applicants will need to consider transportation to and from Employer. This also applies for the training venues as this is an important part of taking on the apprenticeship. You will also be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check performed by the employer.

About the employer

Based in the rural village of Churchinford, we are a small, fun, and friendly pre-school. The village is situated in the heart of The Blackdown Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Somerset. We take pride in being able to offer each child the individual time and attention they need. We love the outdoors and enjoy growing our own fruit and vegetables in our fantastic garden. We also have toys and books galore and love to sing, dance and dress up!
