    A mixture of weekday day shifts (starting no earlier than 7:15am) and evening shifts (finishing no later than 10pm) as well as working every other weekend (8am – 5pm) [Breaks are paid due to on-call nature of role]

What will the apprentice be doing?

  • Support the day-to-day operations of the Sports Centre and outdoor sports facilities
  • Lifeguarding
  • Setting up & taking down sports equipment
  • Cleaning/housekeeping tasks
  • Covering the reception desk and dealing with customer/member queries

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ – Level 2)

First Aid at Work Certificate (Level 3)

[The above courses are completed as part of the same 6-day training course]

Swim England (Level 2) in Teaching Swimming

Level 2 Certification in Fitness/Gym Instructors

[The schedule for the above courses will be dependent on the course provider but are usually completed by attending a series of days over a month/3-month period]

*Where possible, courses will take place at ACS Sports Centre. Where this is not possible, a suitable course will be sourced within as close a proximity to Cobham (or the apprentice’s home address) as possible

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Career progression to full-time Recreation Assistant and then to Sports Centre Duty Manager

Alternative route – swim coaching or fitness instructor/personal training
