What will the apprentice be doing?

  • Receiving animals that have been delivered or collected by HARC staff
  • Assisting Animal Attendants with checking health & welfare
  • Carrying out daily husbandry of a range of species - domestic pets, mammals, reptiles and amphibians
  • Assisting with treating sick animals under guidance from Vets
  • Assisting Animal Attendants with checking the paperwork of animals travelling
  • Meeting customers arriving to the centre & advising them of their animal’s status
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Apprentices will achieve a practical and theory-based (or 'combined') qualification: •Diploma in Keeper & Aquarist Level 3 • Functional Skills in ICT, Maths & English (*where applicable)

Things to consider

Working weekends / unsocial hours may be required • Vaccinations including rabies & airport security checks required • you can have your own transport or be able to commute to HARC easily, due to the nature of the shifts • Free from animal allergies • Experience with animals can be voluntary work & need Standard DBS
