    Working hours: Monday –Wednesday: 8.30am-5.30pm Thursday: 8.30am – 6.30pm (this is on a rota basis) Friday: 8.30am – 5.00pm Lunch- 1pm-2pm Apprentice will be given a full day or half day off each week.

What will the apprentice be doing?

Keep the clinical areas and all equipment and instruments clean, tidy and sterile as appropriate and according to the practice’s health and safety and infection control procedures and manufacturers' instructions

Use all equipment and machinery in accordance with manufacturers' recommendations and ensure that they are maintained regularly and in good working order.

Provide chairside assistance, ensuring that the correct equipment is available

Ensure the care and welfare of patients

Accurately complete patient clinical records as directed

Handle all substances in accordance with health and safety policies

Be familiar and comply with all health and safety rules and guidance, including PPE, COSHH, mercury handling, infection control, waste disposal etc

Complete laboratory request forms, keep records of work sent, received and fitted

Ensure adequate stocks of materials and other items within the surgery

Ensure computer/written records are accurately maintained and securely stored

Liaise with reception to ensure smooth patient communications and transfer of records

Attend and participate in practice meetings

Other duties as necessary for the efficient operation of the practice (perhaps including the duties and tasks of receptionist as required)

Undergo training as may be required to develop skills and abilities

Attend refresher and update training for medical emergencies and CPR

Act in accordance with the practice rules and code of conduct


What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

The successful candidate will be working towards a level 3 dental nurse qualification with The Learning Foundry. Training will be delivered on the job, with 20% off the job hours to complete course work assigned by an assessor. An assessor will visit once a month to see how learning is progressing and provide any support that is needed.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Once qualified to register with the GDC and work at the practice as a qualified dental nurse. We offer a range or NHS and private treatments and at the practice and encourage all staff members to go onto course to further their knowledge and carer and to complete CPD.

About the employer

The practice is well established for over 30 years based in Newton le Willows. The practice is modern and bright with five fully equipped surgeries. The surgeries are fully digital, operating on SOE software and digital x-rays. The staff are well trained, friendly and professional. The team consists of the Practice owner, Principal Dentist, 3 Associate Dentists, the Practice Manager, 6 Dental Nurses and 1 Receptionist. We are currently expanding the practice to bring in new and existing patients wanting private treatment such as aesthetics. We are looking forward to this new exciting opportunity.
