What will the apprentice be doing?
Duties to Include:
- Gaining knowledge of accounting fundamentals, terminology and impact on reporting.
- Developing an understanding of finance processes and controls including construction of monthly Balance Sheet and P&L for the group, reconciliations and cashflow management.
- Assistance with monthly management accounts preparation to monitor financial performance and exposure to annual budget setting processes.
- Assistance with purchase ledger, sales ledger and bank reconciliations.
- Assistance with reporting for business partnering cost centre holders.
- Development of enhanced reporting across the business to inform decision makers, including design of new reports to be presented to senior management and Board.
- Experience in scenario planning and sensitivity analysis on forecasts to assess the impact of management decisions and business risks.
- Practical use of Financial Accounting systems and reporting tools.
- Exposure to project accounting and grant funding requirements
You may be required to undertake any other reasonable duties to support the Catapult in achieving its strategic outcomes and ensure effective business operations.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship Level 3. This level is ideal for existing staff or new talent in an accounting or finance role. Their work could include assisting in the day to day financial activities such as data entry to month end management accounts and/or year-end financial statements. You will be studying the AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting. This level will encourage you to master more complex accounting principles in both Bookkeeping and Management Accounting. You will study 5 units: Financial Accounting; Preparing Financial Statements (FAPS). Management Accounting Techniques (MATS). Tax Processes for Business (TPFB). Business Awareness (BUAW). Advanced Synoptic Assessment (ADSY) which forms part of your End Point Assessment. Training will be provided by attending either face-to-face classroom based lessons, Live Online sessions or OnDemand. An apprenticeship has to be relevant to the job you are undertaking and you must dedicate 20% of your time towards it.

Potential to go on and do L4 qualification if successful with work, attitude and qualification There would be opportunities of development within the finance department and other areas of the business through application to new and/or vacant roles .
