What will the apprentice be doing?
Main duties involve
- Performing various lab activities including equipment maintenance, issuing and archiving documents
- Preparing reagents
- Performing cell culture
- Reagent checks and preparations
- Inventory management and updating documents.
- The role may also involve release and stability testing of samples using various techniques following adequate experience and training.
Specific responsibilities may include:
• Performing laboratory maintenance activities
• Updating documents such as SOPs, forms etc.
• Passaging cells and preparing reagents for testing
• Sample receipt, dispatch and maintaining sample inventory
• Maintain reagent and consumable inventory
• Method transfer and qualification related activities
• Performing testing for stability and release samples as per SOPs
• Take up project work as required
• Communicating with a colleague within and outside of the Quality Control department as required
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Apprentices will follow the Level 5 Technician Scientist apprenticeship and will gain an FdSc in Applied Bioscience (ATMP route)
The apprentice will be released for study once per week. Study is mostly distance learning with the exception of two summer schools, each one week long, in person, at The University of Kent's Canterbury campus.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
On successful completion of the apprenticeship, candidates will be able to apply for further positions.
