The purpose of the role is to ensure that all products are safe, legal and produced to the highest quality, ensuring all our customer and legislative requirements are met.

Once probation period completed, the normal hourly rate is £10.50 per hour. Overtime is available - rate to be confirmed.

Working week
This is a specialist role (over 18) based at Pickstock Telford. The hours will be 07.00am – 16.30pm with an unpaid hour break, Monday – Friday (overtime is available). There will be 28 days paid holiday per year which includes bank holidays.
Total hours per week: 42.5

What will the apprentice be doing?
After internal training your key responsibilities will be:
- Identifying and maintaining compliance to our customers codes of practice through gaining a clear understanding of the product specification and internal auditing procedures.
- Carrying out daily tasks within our abattoir, boning and packing production areas, which include temperature monitoring, product inspection, product label compliance.
- To ensure all daily documentation is completed on correctly and on time
- Investigate complaints and incidents using root cause analyse techniques (after further training)
- Ensuring our teams meet the highest quality standard each day
- Further training will include food safety systems and safe ways of working.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
The Food Industry Technical Professional Degree Apprenticeship will take 5 years to complete part time whilst working.
You will be studying a BSc (Honours) Food Science and Technology Degree starting in September 2022. In each year, 4 modules will be delivered as 4 taught one-week blocks of study at Harper Adams University, near Telford. Pickstock will offer a range of other personal development whilst you work.
In addition to the taught modules, apprentices will study independently 1 work-based learning project module per year, with other skills training and visits in the work-place from specialist tutors.
In each year, this work based project is agreed between Harper Adams University and Pickstock to meet the academic knowledge, skills and behaviour requirements and progress is reviewed regularly. For more information visit:

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
This position is open to anyone who wishes to pursue a career in our Technical Department as full training and development is undertaken based on your current experiences. The role will be supported throughout the apprenticeship to undertake work based activities that broaden the expertise of the apprentice and develop leadership and management skills as part of the 5-year process. The company have a number of extensive projects in development across the business that require this expertise.
