What will the apprentice be doing?
As an apprentice bricklayer, your work would include:
· Shadowing experienced bricklayers/supervisors to get a feel and understanding of the job role
· The first three months will be a probationary period in which the supervisor will assess your work and level you work at – please note we will not advise you to start laying bricks with no prior experience and until the supervisor feels you are ready
· Measuring the work area and setting out the first rows of bricks (courses) and the damp course
· Mixing mortar by hand or with a mechanical mixer
· Laying the bricks on top of each other and applying the mortar with a trowel
· Shaping and trimming bricks using hammers, chisels and power tools
· Checking that courses are straight using water or laser spirit levels and plumb lines.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
With hard work and commitment there is scope for development on pay rates throughout the apprenticeship duration.
After successfully completing the apprenticeship you could move into Bricklaying improver roles and continue to progress with company into a range roles.
Winchmore Brickwork currently employ over 20 apprentices with rates as high as £225 p/d. We continually work with our apprentices allowing them to better their skill set and on site management skills with a view of becoming a bricklaying supervisor as an end goal.
