What will the apprentice be doing?

The manufacturing industry offers an exciting and varied career, providing a broad spectrum of opportunities for people to work in a technically advanced and innovative environment.

A manufacturing operative is responsible for the production of a company’s products with the use of industrial machinery. Working to strict safety and quality requirements, they should help to achieve daily production requirements in terms of quality and quantity to meet customer expectations and requirements, optimising efficiency and maintaining operational excellence. This role offers the opportunity to work in a family run company who pride themsleves on delivering high quality and bespoke packaging products and have over 40 years of exerience in their field.

Along with the safe and efficient operation of machinery, replenishing materials and quality checks the operative will also:

  • Ensure the accurate and efficient assembly, testing, and packing of the company’s products.
  • Be part of a team involved in varius stages of production and assembly of products.
  • Carry out continual checks on components for accuracy and quality and if necessary.
  • Monitor stock levels.
  • Receive Fork lift Training.
  • Help to deliver to time schedules allocated for each assembly job.
  • Interpreting and following job instructions through to completion.
  • Work with a range of materials to produce various components and completed products.
  • Identify and resolve potential assembly problems and raise any quality issues with team leaders and/or managers.
  • Assist with caring for and maintaining the company’s tools and machinery.
  • Help maintain a clean, safe, and tidy working environment.
  • Maintain good communications and relationships throughout the company.
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures and make suggestions for improvement.
  • Participate in the overall continuous improvement of the company.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

On successful completion of the Apprenticeship, you will gain a L2 Lean Manufacturing Operative qualification.


Formal training will be provided by an external training provider by means of online sessions within the workplace on a regular basis.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

There is opportunity to move into full time employment on succesful completion of the Apprenticeship

Things to consider

The apprentice needs to be able to get to site which is in a semi-rural location. Own transport would be an advantage though there is a nearby bus service
