What will the apprentice be doing?

To provide high-quality and efficient Financial Administrative support to the Property and Casualty team.

Key responsibilities are likely to include:


Responsible for the team's billing.

  • Attend monthly WIP meetings with the London and Bristol partners.
  • Keep a log of Billing Guides requested every month (usually around 50 – 70 per month).
  • Complete Billing Guides and look up excess details and insurer refs (following up if not received) and noting the net/VAT split on the Billing Guides.
  • Process Billing Guides as they come back from Finance and keep a tracker of who they are with. Send out chasers advising billing deadlines to the team.
  • Check invoices against Billing Guides when they come back from Finance – be responsible for noticing any anomalies and having invoices reissued where necessary.
  • PDF the invoices.
  • Prepare draft emails to send out the invoices.
  • Deal with any billing queries or reissues and liaise with Finance as necessary.
  • Follow up re any overdue invoices with Cashiers.
  • Liaise with third party suppliers re billing requirements (e.g. if a policy excess needs to be taken into account or confirming whether the Insured is VAT registered etc).
  • Assists with ensuring efficient financial management of files.
  • Feed in and manage the production of the group's client and internal management information.
  • Become an expert / superuser of management information systems and train new users.
  • Regular checking of dispatch lists to ensure every invoice has been sent out and following up as necessary.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship Level 3. This level is ideal for existing staff or new talent in an accounting or finance role. Their work could include assisting in the day to day financial activities such as data entry to month end management accounts and/or year-end financial statements. You will be studying the AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting. This level will encourage you to master more complex accounting principles in both Bookkeeping and Management Accounting. You will study 5 units: Financial Accounting; Preparing Financial Statements (FAPS). Management Accounting Techniques (MATS). Tax Processes for Business (TPFB). Business Awareness (BUAW). Advanced Synoptic Assessment (ADSY) which forms part of your End Point Assessment. Training will be provided by attending either face-to-face classroom based lessons, Live Online sessions or OnDemand. An apprenticeship has to be relevant to the job you are undertaking and you must dedicate 20% of your time towards it.

The right candidate would have the opportunity to remain with the firm following completion of the apprenticeship and potentially take on further study in the future.
