What will the apprentice be doing?

Working as part of a small team, the successful applicant will work in the shop area of the Pharmacy where they will routinely serve customers with both over the counter remedies and shop items. They will also take prescriptions in and give out prescription medication. Cash and card handling, end of day cashing up, Stock control and cleaning are also part of the role. Following training, the assistant will also be able to give advice regarding minor ailments and over the counter medication to customers whilst being able to refer to the Pharmacist appropriately. When working in the dispensary area, the successful applicant will assist with preparation of prescription medications, stock control and ordering. Dealing with telephone queries and use of computer systems is also part of the role in both areas. You will complete the Retail Level 2 apprenticeship as well as two National Pharmacy association courses (Counter assistant & Medical Dispensing)

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Retail Level 2 Apprenticeship + 2 GPhC Accredited Courses delivered by the National Pharmacy Association (NPA) Medicines Counter Assistant and Accredited Dispensing Assistant Course.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Once qualified as a Level 2 Dispensing Assistant there are opportunities within pharmacy, following consolidation of the Level 2 role, to undertake Level 3 training leading to a Registered Pharmacy Technician qualification.
