What will the apprentice be doing?


Assist staff in all matters pertinent to the smooth running of Town Council business across all departments.;

· Carry out a wide variety of customer service  tasks such receptions duties (greeting visitors, assisting with queries, answering telephone),  responding to electronic mail, engaging with customers via social media ;

Assist in café serving customers and helping facilitate the weekly senior coffee morning and cinema event;

· Process basic financial information to include ordering goods and handling money;

· Assist in the preparation of agendas and minutes and supporting meeting administration;

· Developing and maintaining records; maintaining filing systems and venue specific systems, using a variety of software packages and paper systems, updating information as required;

· To assist with various projects, eg ;events/civic events and promotions where required and to attend events to engage and assist our customers;

· To assist in maintaining the Town Council website and social media accounts where required;

· Carry out any other duties that may be required.

You will attend the Filton Campus of SGS College to complete the Diploma element of the apprenticeship. You will be supported by your tutor with one to one visits, as well as a mix of blended learning to achieve your apprenticeship. 

College attendance for the delivery of the Diploma is mandatory for all apprentices and will be approx 10 half day sessions. 

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

You will be supported with progression on completion of your apprenticeship.

Things to consider

The apprentice maybe required to lift and move furniture and equipment/stock as part of their normal duties, (Manual Handling Awareness training will be provided). The apprentice will be based at Yate Town Council Office at Poole Court. (However the apprentice may occasionally be required to work from other Yate Town Council facilities depending on business needs or to work from home). The apprentice will be required to attend occasional meetings and events with other members of Yate Town Council staff / councillors. If you are convicted of a criminal offence or receive a caution once employed, you must inform the Town Clerk immediately. Failure to do so may result in disciplinary action, which could lead to dismissal.

About the employer

The Town Council aims to improve the quality of life for the residents of Yate. We (Yate Town Council) provide a range of sporting facilities including a bowling green, football pitches, tennis courts and pavilion facilities and also, a skateboarding park. In addition, we own several properties including the Pop Inn Café, the Armadillo Youth Cafe and Venue, Yate Heritage Centre, the Parish Hall and Poole Court. Some of our facilities are even available to hire. We also provide bus shelters, litter bins, dog bins and public seats. In addition, we administer and provide play areas at many locations throughout the town. We also own and maintain several areas of open space including Lye Field, Yate Rocks Common, Goose Green and St Mary’s Green. We undertake projects to enhance and upgrade existing facilities and also, to provide new amenities for residents and visitors to enjoy.
