We are looking for an apprentice butcher to work 40 hours a week, based at our very popular Estate Farm Shop. You will be part of the busy butchery team, working to prepare top quality produce from the Estate for sale.

What will the apprentice be doing?

Duties are tasks you will carry out are:

  • Provide high quality customer service to our customers through the professional breakdown and preparation of beef, lamb, pork and value added products;
  • Assist wider butchery team as and when required, including packing, pricing, preparation and the maintenance of displays;
  • Speak to customers to determine their needs and provide advice on suitable cuts, preparation methods and cooking times;
  • Ensure excellent standards of cleanliness and hygiene are maintained at all times.

  • Butcher Standards Level 2 Qualification
  • FDQ Level 2 Award in Food Safety
  • FDQ Level 2 Award in Health & Safety
  • FDQ Level 2 Award in Knife Skills
  • Level 1 / 2 Functional skills in English and maths if required

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

As part of the apprenticeship you will be offered a permanent contract in our Farm Shop Team.

Things to consider

It is hard work and can be physically demanding. In the winter it is a cold environment to work in, but if you are motivated you will not be too affected by this. Butchery is a skills shortage so if you are proficient and qualified you can earn a good living.
