What will the apprentice be doing?
You will be working as part of a small team. On a daily basis you will assist to develop, review and check on the implementation of safe systems of work, deliver training (e.g. toolbox talks & inductions), investigate incidents, analyse incident and near-miss data and present findings to the management team.
As a Health & Safety Apprentice you will engage with all aspects of the Trust to support the embedding a culture that ensures everyone is able to return to their family and friends unharmed every day whilst also protecting and enhancing the environment. This will be achieved by inspiring and influencing others to see the benefit of working responsibly, understanding the legal framework and showing how safety, health and environmental management can enhance operational activities.

- Learning to apply a range of Information technology and interpersonal skills in order to provide an excellent service to both internal and external customers including answering incoming calls, responding to emails and assisting with some basic administrative duties.
- Learning to work effectively as part of a team as well as on own initiative, developing excellent communication skills and dealing with all queries in an effective and efficient way
- Learning how to accurately maintain records; both manual and computerised.
- Gaining a good understanding of risk assessments, safe systems of work together with policies and procedures.
- Undertake site visits to construction/ refurbishment / repair works to check on site safety standards.
- Maintaining excellent levels of attendance at college/tutor sessions and successfully achieving a level 3 qualification.
- To always work in a “safe” way ensuring compliance with legislation, regulatory requirements, best practice and continuous improvement.
- Always ensure actions and behaviours fully support the Trust’s Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Strategy
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Successful applicatants will complete the Safety, Health and Environemental Apprenticeship which will include, English, Maths and ICT (if not currently held) Delivery will take place on site and with remote tutorials with their tutor.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
Successful completion of this apprenticeship could lead to a range of opportunities including a team leader or management role within the company or associated industry.
