What will the apprentice be doing?
Daily duties:
- Learn to perform Assembly, Wire, Test & Inspections of BH Electrical / Electronic products, in accordance with technical drawings and to IPC (industry standards).
- Learn to use measuring equipment and hand tools to check dimensions and parts meet requirements, as per drawings.
- Carry out Mechanical inspections on products within the mechanical cell along with documentation to ensure all procedures and results are recorded.
- Carry out Audits as directed on processes and procedures raising any issues found.
- Raise non-conformances and report defects.
- Work from engineering drawings, following formal procedures, ensuring quality product for our customers.
- Learn to fault find erroneous product down to module / sub-assembly level.
- Become competent in the use of Test Equipment(s) including, but not limited to, Oscilloscopes, Digital multi-meters, Pressure sensors, and a range of simulators, leading to the ability to set up and test Product Systems.
- Carry out Lean/Quality green belt six sigma projects working with teams to measure processes to drive improvements.
- Become competent in the use of Business IT/M systems, which include Engineering Documentation packages, Quality and HSE systems.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
- Engineering Technician - Technical Support Technician qualification Level 3 standard qualification.
- During the first year you will have 3 and a half days a week in college. After your first year your college days will be reduced to 1 a week.
- You will be given 20% of your working week dedicated to your apprentice study, or Off the Job Training, to carry out self-supported study, compiling your portfolio or completing work set by your assessor.
- Assessor visits to the workplace once the workshops have finished to prepare you for your End Point Assessment
- If you have not already achieved a C/4 + in both maths and English (or equivalent) and cannot provide evidence in the form of a certificate, you will also need to achieve Functional skills at Level 2, in both Numeracy and Literacy. This will include sitting an exam.
