What will the apprentice be doing?

  • Assist the Production Manager in ensuring that the production function is cost effective.
  • Ensure that all company procedures are adhered to – these include health and safety, Quality and standard operating procedures.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and implement the changes if approved by communicating these opportunities to the relevant people, in the most appropriate way depending upon the situation.
  • Maintain a structured and organized work environment at all times.
  • Maintain the highest possible personal standards at all times.
  • Help to ensure that the team are producing work of a consistently high quality whilst working efficiently and effectively.
  • Problem solving to resolve issues within a remanufacturing environment.
  • Primary interface between engineering and production team. Design of lean manufacturing calls for one piece flow, including assembly and test / calibration processes.
  • Design / specification of process equipment/systems using lean methodologies, including specification of jigs/ fixtures and software/database systems.
  • Responsible for the selection and maintenance of equipment.
  • Production / maintenance staff training.
  • Implementing best practice for health and safety.
  • Continuous improvement, including raising non-conformances.
  • Drive technical solutions.
  • Cost improvement analysis including time and motion studies Driving all drawing/BoM changes originating from engineering to production.
  • Assisting with the development of remanufacturing specifications and build standard.
  • Monitor product standards and implement quality-control programs.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

After a period of foundation skills and technical knowledge development all apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications:

Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence)
After a further period of skills and technical knowledge development all apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications:

Level 3 Engineering Technician (Technical Support)

Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) – Technical Support
Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge) - for all starts from 1st July 2017
