What will the apprentice be doing?
Within this role you will:
- Complete a carpentry apprenticeship
- Learn how to deliver an amazing repairs service to our customers
- Carry out a range of job tasks including measuring, marking out, fitting, cutting, splicing, finishing, positioning and securing.
- Repair or replace frames, mouldings, doors, windows, door and window ironmongery, roofing components, guttering and downpipes and window components, fencing, stud work, every day will be different
- Understand how to form specific joints required for site carpentry work, such as mitres, butt and halving joints
- Understand how to communicate with others and comply with instructions and directions.
- Know how to use, maintain and store hand tools, power tools and associated equipment.
- Carryout all other works under a multi trade assistant to widen working knowledge and to gain experience in other areas where carpentry works may cross over
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
As part of the Carpentry and Joinery Standard you will be achieving the following qualifications:
- Apprenticeship Standard Certificate in Carpentry and Joinery (Site Carpentry)
- Functional Skills Maths (Level 2)*
- Functional Skills English (Level 2)*
- *Will be achieved if relevant qualification not already held prior to the Apprenticeship.
The apprenticeship training will take place at North Hertfordshire College once a week.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
Upon completion of the apprenticeship, there may be opportunities to continue working with Settle as a full time employee.
