What will the apprentice be doing?
Apprentices would be expected to work alongside DBR and subcontract bricklayers undertake all manner of conservation brickwork on the Crystal Palace project; this will include learning the following techniques:
- The safe deconstruction of historic masonry, the construction of formwork, cleaning beds, setting out and preparation prior to rebuild as well as the construction of footings, piers, arches and facework.
- The safe production, use and the after care of, historic lime mortars.
- How to rake out, prepare and repoint brickwork in a variety of styles.
- The use of traditional bricks rather than new build construction materials, the challenges this presents and how these can be overcome.
- Apprentices will be expected to undertake all manner of site work, not just be limited to brickwork elements.

o Institute of Apprenticeship Certificate
End-Point Assessment (EPA)

o Oral Questioning – underpinned by portfolio
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
DBR will also offer job opportunity upon the completion of NVQ. Employees will also be given the opportunity to learn other masonry skills that would not simply be limited to brickwork. DBR have 80 directly employed masonry specialists working alongside bricklayers”.
DBR would need to run through the terms of employment and our obligations prior to appointment, please can this be discussed with course leaders.
Apprentice will be required to undertake a DBS check.
