The Apprentice will work alongside colleagues to learn how to ensure all tasks are carried out safely and to a standard/quality that as a minimum meets the Companies and Customers requirements. You will learn various maintenance and overhaul skills on a wide range of locomotives and learn the various standards and quality requirements.

What will the apprentice be doing?
- The apprentice Locomotive Fitter will be expected to learn how to carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) of HNRC and Clients Vehicles as stated in the locomotive type Vehicle Maintenance Overhaul Instruction (VMOI) during the period of the apprenticeship.
- Only to carryout work they are competent to undertake, with supervision from mentors as required.
- Learn how to complete repairs and to ensure component parts, when tested, meet with the vehicles VMOI criteria.

Ensure all work undertaken in accordance with the Companies and Customers Technical Specifications and procedures, plus the Rail Industry Standards.

Communicate with management around job priorities and timescales, availability requirements, and any identified anomalies.
- The apprentice will be provided with PPE and will be trained and mentored on the use of PPE and will be expected to be compliant at all times.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
- The apprentice will attend college on day release at the National College for Advanced Transport & infrastructure
- Apprentice will undertake the Level 3 Railway Engineer technician - Traction & Rolling stock pathway
- On successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will be awarded the Level 3 Railway Engineer technician standard
- Other rail specific training will be provided to ensure compliance with health & safety regulations
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
On succesful completion of the apprenticeship, the individual will be considered for full time employment and potential enrolment onto the level 4 Railway Engineer Advanced technician apprenticeship.
