What will the apprentice be doing?

De La Rue are a company at the forefront of product authentication solutions and secure currency design, working with governments, central banks, and commercial organisations around the globe.

We are recruiting for Design Origination Apprentice to join our Authentication division, which exists to protect revenues and reputations for customers around the world through the creation of products such as Government Revenue Solutions, Brand Protection, Financial & Secure documents as well as ID Security components. 

As a Pre-Press Technician apprentice, you will become skilled in the physical processes that occur at the first stage of production before the printing and finishing stages.

As an apprentice, you will:

  • Be involved with the design and origination of high security documents, which meet a customer brief as well as production specifications
  • Be fully conversant with all aspects of the pre-press function from creating images through to producing production data
  • Develop an understanding of print and plate making processes such as wet and dry lithographic plate printing
  • Have a good knowledge of materials and features used in the manufacture of high security documents
  • Be competent in the preparation of digital files through processes such as typesetting

The right candidate will have a technical mindset and excellent attention to detail.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

The successful candidate will work towards achieving the Level 3  Print Technician Standard - Design & Pre Press apprenticeship qualification delivered in partnership with the British Printing Industries Federation (BPIF).

The apprentice will receive training in Adobe CC, Quark, Esko Automation Engine.

Please note, this role is more technical design focused rather than illustrative design.

The apprenticeship will be based in our Design department at our Head Office in Basingstoke and may require some travel to represent De La Rue.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

The role will initially be on a fixed term basis (approximately 30 months) with the intention of a permanent contract being issued pending the successful completion of the apprenticeship qualification.
