What will the apprentice be doing?

As a Nursery Apprentice, you will contribute to a high-quality caring environment for children.

This includes:

  • Creating warm, friendly, and stimulating atmosphere in which the children can develop emotionally, socially, and educationally
  • Under supervision you will provide all aspects of care for children including washing, changing, and feeding
  • Acting as key worker to a small group of children and recording observations and planning for them
  • Assisting with meeting the personal and emotional needs of individual children
  • Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
  • Being aware of the nurseries policies and procedures and ensure they are adhered to
  • Completing all work to desired timescales as set by Showcase Training Tutor

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

  • NCFE/CACHE Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner
  • Functional Skills: English and maths and ICT at level 1 minimum (unless exempt)

If the potential candidate already holds a valid L2 Childcare award or has sufficient experience, the L3 Early Years Educator (18 months) may be offered.

Training completed via work based visits at the nursery and 4 hour study time provided for coursework

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Upon completing the Level 2 or 3 Apprenticeship, you may be offered a full-time position and further training.

About the employer

Little Stars Pre-school is privately owned and has been open since October 2006. Our pre-school operates from a scout hall that is situated in a residential area of Farlington with use of a secure enclosed outdoor play area. ​ Our pre-school is Ofsted registered and can have a maximum of thirty children attending each session between two to five years of age. There are three members of our team holding Level 3 and 4 qualifications and one Apprentice studying Level 3. ​ Little Stars Pre-school has a warm and friendly environment that encourages opportunities for the children to develop in their individual learning. Our setting operates a key person system that enables children and parents/carers to form a close relationship with a member of staff, this helps children and parents/carers to feel confident and welcome.
