What will the apprentice be doing?

The successful candidate will be supporting as The Production Assistant who is responsible for the administration of a broad range of operations activities at Benbow Steels, and also to provide support as appropriate to the rest of the business team.

This is a dynamic role, with significant emphasis on working to very short time deadlines to ensure customer requirements are met.

The Production Administrator will provide support and assistance to the General Manager in all aspects of their role.

Purchasing and Stock Management

Working under the direction of the General Manager to:

  • To purchase pallets and strippable film in line with stocking policies
  • To purchase other items required to support operational activities at Benbow Steels
  • Working with the General Manger, to ensure that stock records are accurately maintained.

Goods Receivable

  • To book steel onto Imetal.

Production Administration

  • To create standard production jobs and appropriate labels
  • To update stock and confirm production jobs when cut
  • To raise and produce despatch notes
  • To input transport jobs onto haulier’s systems
  • To raise mill claims on suppliers as appropriate

Health & Safety Coordination

To support the General Manager in maintaining all appropriate Health & Safety data is kept up to date. This is to include

  • Daily and weekly check-sheets
  • Statutory inspections
  • Employee training

 Other Tasks

  • To carry out general office administration as required and provide cover for other members of staff.

Working towards a Level 3 Business Administrator standard, your qualification will cover:

Business administrators have a highly transferable set of knowledge, skills and behaviours that can be applied in all sectors. This includes small and large businesses alike, from the public sector, private sector and charitable sector. The role may involve working independently or as part of a team and will involve developing, implementing, maintaining and improving administrative services. Business administrators develop key skills and behaviours to support their own progression towards management responsibilities.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

As well as gaining knowledge on administration duties’ you will also going in depth knowledge on the design and manufacture of products. Upon successful completion and review of the apprenticeship, you will have the opportunity to gain employment with the business.
