What will the apprentice be doing?

A typical shift at Future Care Solutions involves the care support worker supporting/ assisting an individual/ client with a variety of tasks to meet their own specific needs. These tasks will be set out in a tailor-made plan of care, which you will have access to in their home. This could be helping them to have a wash, get dressed, prepare a simple meal, manage their medication, do some shopping or light housework. We also provide companionship support. This could be escorting them to a hospital appointment, the cinema, lunch at a garden centre, or attend a place of worship. It simply could be having a chat and a cup of tea with them, at home or in the garden.

Our main aim is to promote independence. where possible and encourage and include our clients in all activities of daily living,

The Health and Safety of our clients is paramount; therefore, it is essential we always remain alert and respond promptly and effectively toany problems that may arise during the visit.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

At the end of the apprenticeship, you will have achieved Level 2 Diploma in Care.

The apprentice would be assigned an assessor through the College, who would typically come out to visit in the workplace to assess workplace competence in the standard's Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Progression on to a senior care support worker role within the Future Care Solutions team.

Things to consider

A full driving license and use of a car is essential. The role will involve ’moving and assisting’ tasks where a ’need’ has been identified and with the use of equipment. Each staff member will receive full training in this area before working independently in a client’s home. *This is the same for medication support and food preparation, full training will be given, and competency assessed. You may be required to feed/walk/care for a client’s pet therefore a liking of domestic pets is desirable
