What will the apprentice be doing?

The apprenticeship offers candidates an excellent opportunity to work in an IT role covering a wide range of technical issues. You will report directly to an IT Manager who will assist with more technical issues while offering coaching and guidance to improve your skills and experience.

The IT Support Apprentice will be involved with: 

  • 1st line fixes (face to face and via telephone)
  • PC and laptop hardware fixes
  • Software fixes
  • Troubleshooting
  • Printer issues
  • Telecomms issues

You may also have the opportunity for some exposure to website development and related project work, subject to your skills and career preference.

Personal Qualities and Skills

Applicants for the IT Support Apprentice position will have the following characteristics:

  • Evidence of an ongoing interest in and genuine ability with IT
  • Academic IT qualification from school/college (preferred)
  • Outgoing personality with good interpersonal skills
  • Well developed written and verbal communications skills
  • Initiative and a 'can-do' attitude
  • Conscientious, punctual and dedicated to an IT career
  • Smart and professional personal presentation 

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Infrastructure Technician Apprenticeship Level 3 Standard delivered on a day release basis at our City Campus. 

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

You will be joining a fast-moving, growing SME where capable people get noticed.  There are genuine post-apprenticeship career prospects with the Excel Group and you will also enjoy external educational support for an appropriate academic IT qualification.
