What will the apprentice be doing?

You will be required to undertake all aspects of medical administration and patient facing tasks including call handling, appointment management, audio typing, referrals and effective coding to patients’ medical records.

The role will include, but is not limited to the following duties:

  • Maintaining and monitoring the practice appointment system
  • Process personal, telephone and e-requests for appointments
  • Triaging and assigning all non-appointment related e-requests to the appropriate persons/teams
  • Answer incoming phone calls, transferring calls or dealing with the callers request appropriately
  • As required support clinical staff in the management of repeat prescriptions, ensuring they are processed accurately and efficiently
  • Processing incoming and outgoing mail in all formats
  • Actively signpost patients to the correct services both within practice, PCN and the wider care community

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

The Customer Service level 2 apprenticeship will be enhanced by the addition of medical modules relevant to the job role. In the main, training will be delivered in the workplace, there may be the occasional need to attend college.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Completion of this apprenticeship could lead to an Operations Administrator role.
