What will the apprentice be doing?

You will be working in a small team with one other, either James or qualified employee and visiting a variety of gardens.

Duties will include:

  • Landscaping
  • Laying patio
  • Fencing
  • Turfing
  • Sleeper construction
  • Digging over beds
  • Weeding
  • Pruning
  • Cutting grass
  • Strimming
  • Hedge cutting

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

  • Training will be provided by the employer and KEITS towards the Level 2 Horticulture Operative Standard. 
  • Training towards functional skills if required.

Things to consider

Need to be happy to work outdoors in all weathers and flexible on hours of working. The meeting place for the team in the mornings is at the lock up at West Hyde, Rickmansworth WD3 9XU, candidate must be able to get here for 7.50am. Either by living within 10 miles of this location or have access to own transport. Should it be difficult to get to the lock up, then there is a possibility of collecting and returning to Chorleywood Station. The apprentice will be working to build a portfolio of evidence and preparing for the End Point Assessment.

About the employer

James does both garden maintenance and landscaping himself. Two other employees also do the garden maintenance. James meets everyone at the lock up to go through the day's work. James is active with work and meeting and talking with the employees.
