    £10.10 per hour while in PCV Licence acquisition training, on completion of Licence acquisition training £11.32 per hour, after 12 Months service £13.00 per hour. First 1 £22,250 per annum minimum, Year 2 onwards £25,012 per annum minimum.

    37 hour working week, Sunday to Saturday, working 5 days out of 7 each week on a rostered basis, shifts ranging between 04:00-01:00hrs each day with average working day between 7.5hrs-8hrs. Shift based work with earlies/middles/lates/weekends.

What will the apprentice be doing?

  • Within the first 2 months apprentices learn to drive a bus and undertake examinations to acquire their PCV (Bus) licence
  • Within the following 1 month apprentices learn our network of routes and are accompanied in service for 2-3 weeks with an experienced mentor; to make them comfortable in their new role,
  • Over the next 9 months our Apprentices attend one day per month ongoing training to work on their Apprenticeship portfolio with their tutor and work towards their end point assessment.
  • During this 9 months our Apprentices our out delivering services to the public and gaining experience driving bus services in Greater Manchester.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Our Driver Training School is based at our flagship Hyde Road Depot (Stagecoach Manchester, Hyde Road, Ardwick, Manchester M12 6JS). Apprentices complete their first 2 months working at this location (irrespective of which Greater Manchester Depot they will ultimately work at) with our team of Instructors to gain their PCV licence (Category D Licence) enabling them to drive Buses and Coaches in the UK.

Following licence acquisition, Apprentices work from their home depot locations to learn the network of routes and getting familiar with their role with a mentor driver.

Ongoing Apprenticeship classes (one per month) are conducted at either our Hyde Road Driver Training School, or at the Training Room at our Sharston Depot (Leestone Road, Sharston Industrial Estate).

On completion of the Apprenticeship End Point Assessment our Apprentices receive; Passenger transport driver - bus, coach and tram (level 2) award (Equivalent to GCSE).

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Promotions – want to start by driving a bus but want to fly up the ladder? Great! We’ve got plenty of colleagues who started life as a driver but are now Inspectors, Trainers, and Managers/Directors within our business. Likewise, you want to focus your career on driving a bus then that’s absolutely fine by us.

UK wide opportunities – fancy a move to Devon in a few years but not sure how you’d get a job there? Family members keen to live in Yorkshire? You decide to go to university in London and want to keep working? Things to consider

There’s only two things we need: - You’ll need to hold a full manual driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points on it. - It will need to be clean if you have held your licence for less than two years. And you’ll want to deliver a great experience for our customers. And that’s it…we’ll help you with everything else you’ll need to know!
