What will the apprentice be doing?

Candidate will be trained in house to:

  • Program, set and operate both spark erosion and wire erosion
  • Use EDM CNC machines working mainly for the aerospace industry on high precision parts.
  • Comply with all health and safety and quality requirements.
  • Program CNC machines using CAD/CAM to create programs and preform in-process inspection checks on parts produced.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Level 3 Technician Engineering Machinist Apprenticeship Standard.

Functional skills maths and English if required.

Full training will be provided on an ongoing daily basis and when required. You will be required to attend Dudley College premises 2 days per week, to work towards a NVQ qualification. An assessor will be allocated to you to progress/help you through you course. Continual assessment for NVQ’s coupled with assignments/or exams depending on course of study. Time spent training will be part of the agreed contracted hours of the working week.

At the end of your training you will sit an exam and submit course work as part of your assessment, and you will receive a Level 3 qualification.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Electro-Discharge Ltd was founded in 1980 to provide a specialist sub-contract Wire and Spark erosion service to the engineering industry. Since coming under new ownership in 1999 we are now a proud member of The MJ Sections Aerospace group and moved into a new custom build facility in Cradley Heath expanding our EDM capabilities and introducing 5 axis laser cutting to our operations.
