What will the apprentice be doing?

  • Maintain the servers and network.
  • Install software and hardware, testing and validating as necessary.
  • Set up computers around the school, making sure they are properly connected, configured and working.
  • Provide support to teaching and non-teaching staff in relation to ICT issues.
  • Provide support to teaching staff to allow production of high-quality resources for use in lessons and online.
  • Trouble-shoot hardware and software issues and solve problems in a professional and efficient manner.
  • Liaise with staff and others to understand their IT requirements providing verbal and written feedback, solutions, advice and guidance in relation to school systems and hardware.
  • Ensure school hardware can be operated safely and effectively.
  • Maintain network accounts.
  • Maintain the door security system and staff passes.
  • Maintain library of documentation and manuals.
  • Maintain catalogue of software on the network system.
  • Maintain catalogue of network and computer hardware.
  • Maintain network and computer hardware in a safe and serviceable condition, organising repairs where necessary.
  • Oversee installation of equipment by external contractors and ensure that work is completed to the requested standard and specifications.
  • Monitor software licensing and ensure it remains up-to-date.
  • Cleaning and setup of AV equipment.
  • Assist in the maintenance and development the college website and online communication facilities.
  • To keep first aid training and knowledge up to date undertaking regular training as required so as to provide any first aid support, as and when necessary.
  • To produce accident reports and to ensure records are kept.
  • To undertake such other duties which may reasonably be regarded as within the nature of the duties and responsibilities/grade of the post as defined, subject to the provison that normally any changes of a permanent nature shall be incorporated into the job description in specific terms following consultation with the recognised trade unions.
